Strict Prohibition of Ragging

Ragging, in any form, is completely prohibited both inside and outside the campus. CN College maintains a zero-tolerance approach towards such behavior, and strict disciplinary action is taken against anyone found violating this rule. The institution firmly believes that a safe, respectful, and supportive environment is essential for learning and personal growth. Hence, no leniency will be shown towards offenders.

The Supreme Court of India has categorically defined ragging as a criminal offense, and violators are liable to face legal consequences in addition to disciplinary measures imposed by the college.

What Constitutes Ragging?

Ragging includes any behavior, whether verbal, written, or physical, that causes mental or physical distress, humiliation, fear, or harm to a student. It can take various forms, including but not limited to:

  • Verbal abuse, threats, or taunts

  • Lewd or inappropriate comments or actions

  • Physical assault or rough handling

  • Harassment or intimidation

  • Obscene or indecent behavior

  • Forcing a student to participate in activities they are uncomfortable with

  • Acts that result in mental trauma, fear, or embarrassment

  • Creating an environment that threatens a student’s dignity, safety, or well-being

Any such behavior that causes annoyance, undue hardship, mental distress, psychological trauma, fear, or humiliation to freshers, junior students, or other members of the campus community falls under ragging.

Effects of Ragging

Ragging can have severe adverse effects on students, including:

  • Emotional distress and anxiety

  • Loss of self-confidence

  • Mental trauma and depression

  • Academic decline and loss of focus

  • Fear, isolation, and social withdrawal

  • Physical injury or health complications

  • Long-term psychological scars

The harmful impact of ragging can disrupt the academic environment, affect a student’s performance, and create an atmosphere of fear and hostility.

Our Commitment Against Ragging

At C N College, we are committed to ensuring that every student feels secure, respected, and valued. The college takes the following steps to prevent and address ragging:

  1. Awareness Programs – Regular workshops and seminars to educate students about the dangers of ragging and the consequences involved.

  2. Strict Monitoring – Surveillance and reporting mechanisms to prevent instances of ragging on and off-campus.

  3. Support Systems – Counseling and grievance redressal cells to assist affected students and provide timely support.

  4. Disciplinary Actions – Immediate suspension, expulsion from the hostel or college, and legal action in cases of proven misconduct.

  5. Encouraging Reporting – Students are encouraged to report incidents without fear of retaliation. All complaints are handled with confidentiality and sensitivity.

Legal Provisions

Ragging is recognized as a punishable offense under various laws and acts in India. The college ensures strict compliance with:

  • The directives issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC)

  • The guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court of India

  • Applicable provisions under the Indian Penal Code (IPC)

Students and guardians are advised to take note that participation in ragging can result in severe legal and institutional consequences.
